The good pirates

No, not the cutthroats in Somalia. Nor the baseball ones in Pittsburgh, though I kinda like them. I'm talking about the Swedish gents at The Pirate Bay. . You can read about them here. They've been brazenly defiant to the RIAA/MPAA goons, and have been on trial since the beginning of this year. A verdict is expected two days from now. . So here's a jolly YO-HO-HO!! to Fredrik, Gottfrid, Peter and Carl. And a hope for an acquittal on all charges. As Jim Morrison once said (in Five-to-One), "They've got the guns, but we've got the numbers..."

Guilty.

Laugh that one off my happy band of pirates ;-)

Despite the hype, the (alleged) 'political' aspect and the general buffoonery, this was the correct verdict.

I guess/hope a whole wave of torrent 'services' will quietly fade away now.

Probably more alarming is the DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) being installed/enabled at ISPs to throttle torrent traffic (99.7% of which is copyright infringing material). Once the big guys are in the slammer, the little guys will be next. They'll stop throttling and start suing.

You know that Madonna CD you downloaded illegally on the basis that "Well, I wouldna bought it anyhows, so how come that can be theft? Nobody lost any money!" - Well, that could land you with a nice fat fine. Oh, not the cost of a CD, but the 'deemed' number of copies that you 'could' have passed on. I believe the 'deemed' amount will be around 10,000 copies, based on the promiscuity of the typical torrent bandit. $50K for a lousy free Madonna CD. Bargain. Not.

It has happened, it will get worse.

C. P. Wright, Attorney.

such slander! i can honestly - yea even proudly - say that i have never in my life downloaded a Madonna CD illegally.

after the installation of DPI's, what will you do in your spare time, since there won't be anything on YouTube?

So you have downloaded a legal copy of a Madonna CD? Are you gay? Uh oh ... What's happenin' in downtown AZ this week ... ;-)

There is no shame in paying for a Madonna CD. I believe several people do so every year.

I mean, it's not as if it's a Prog Rock CD. Now that would be embarrassing :-)

Keep buying Madge's CDs,

Richie Guy.

i searched my hard drive and our CD racks in the living room. No Madonna music whatsoever.

as to what's happening in Phoenix this weekend - well, there's the Pat Tillman run. and a closed-down freeway. oh yeah, a parade and a festival. with the Gin Blossoms closing the festivities tomorrow night. much better than Madge the you-know-what.
