Happy LHC Birthday!

The take of www.xkcd.com on today's switching on of the LHC. When it's fully functional, the doomsdayers fear it will spawn a bunch of Mini Black Holes, which will go about obliterating all matter. Who knew that The Neverending Story would turn out to be a prophetic movie? LHC stands for "Large Hadron Collider", a rather unimaginative acronym for this particle-accelerator. Around here, LHC usually stands for Lake Havasu City, a city in northwest Arizona that's home to the world-famous London Bridge. Which we shrewdly bought from the Brits in the early 70's. Poor gits. They should've known better than to bargain with us savvy Arizonans.

I liked the NBC Nightly News Report, which showed a sign that just said, "We're still here."

Ah, London Bridge. We sure sold a pup to Bob McCulloch back in 1971 :)

The really, really funny thing is: You don't even have all of it. We kept parts of it back in case of failure to pay, and then forgot to forward the bricks on once we'd cashed the cheque (that's 'check' for youse 'Mericans).

That's a cool link, Amanda. Even Larry Lepton will like it. I'm going to check it often. When it no longer says "Nope", I'll start checking myself for little black holes.

Ivan, to say you kept parts of the bridge back is an understatement. You kept the towers; you kept the walkway between the two towers; heck, you even kept the two drawbridge thingies. One has to wonder if you even sent us the right bridge.
