Delusional skeptic, reveling in a multiple-personality disorder. Alternating between a 21st-century blogger, a 3rd-century BC Carthagenian general, a 5th-century BC druid, a 23rd-century BC Beaker-people trader, a 20th-century Estonian freedom-fighter, a time-traveler, and a sheepdog in Wyoming.
My favorite band has a 30-second short song based on this quote. The first couple lines are, "To be or not to be - that is not the question. I decided long ago not to be." :)
Len, that was a hilarious YouTube video. but i'm worried that you're spending too much time there. shouldn't you be buying guitars and selling domain names?
Amanda - i'm going to take a wild guess and say you're referring to Umbrella Brigade. ;-)
Well, technically, no - not Umbrella Brigade. The band I refer to is Stiffs, Inc., which broke up in 1998. The singer for that band went on to later for Umbrella Brigade (which is completely different from Stiffs Inc), and the guitarist went on to join a band called Beaut (also completely different).
Stiff, Inc. played some fairly uncategorizable music that started out more "post-punk" (whatever that is) and progressed into more of an industrial-punk mix. They used a ton of morbid humor. For example, the lines that hooked me the first time I heard the song Blown Away Baby:
"I learned when I was just seventeen, to be forgotten is a bit obscene, but that don't really matter much to you. So when I was just twenty one, I went out and I bought a gun. I will never be away from you! I want to be your blown away baby, I want to be your dead sweetheart."
And so on. The band describes themselves, on their myspace pages, as "It is not everyone's cup of tea, but for those seeking fine oolong and finger sandwiches served on blood-splattered English linen, Stiffs Incorporated provides an appropriate haven."
Umbrella Brigade, as I believe you've heard in a couple songs, is very early-80s techno based, and extremely electronic. The tone is far more serious (Stiffs Inc was nearly all satire, and absolutely hilarioius!).
Beaut is a duet of singer and guitarist, and they play punk caberet. I didn't understand it at first, and then I saw it live. nice!
