Delusional skeptic, reveling in a multiple-personality disorder. Alternating between a 21st-century blogger, a 3rd-century BC Carthagenian general, a 5th-century BC druid, a 23rd-century BC Beaker-people trader, a 20th-century Estonian freedom-fighter, a time-traveler, and a sheepdog in Wyoming.
It was on a business trip, and we stayed through the weekend. Which meant we had Sunday free, and our hosts took us to see this place. Yes, that is a genuine Roman aqueduct in the background.
i've gone north from Paris clear up to Brussels. i've gone west from Paris to the Normandy beaches. i've gone east from Paris to Colmar, a quaint touristy village on the German border.
alas, i've never gone a bit south of Paris. i would dearly love to go down the Loire, then to Marseilles (sp?), and from there into Spain.
Hm, maybe I'm confused - I thought that picture was from Segovia? Really, I'm a lot worse with my geography than I should be, considering how many countries I've taught my kids about.
nope, you're right - it is Segovia. which i really enjoyed, despite only having 1 year of Spanish under my belt.
but you mentioned living in France, and potentially going to Spain from there. i've seen tours that do that - start in Paris, go down the Loire, and end in Spain. Madrid, i suppose. i'd really like to do that someday, when the dollar isn't so weak.
how'd you get to live in France? is it on your blog somewhere?
Hm...it might have been mentioned on my blog in the "100" post, but only in passing. I'm sure I've mentioned it a couple times but nothing big and huge. I was there for an exchange program for school in the summer of 1999. Actually, I wrote up a whole blog about it on myspace back in March of '07 when I met up with a girl I knew back in '99. I believe it should be readable by anyone, here's the link, hopefully that'll work for you. If you're interested, of course.
oh, those are great stories and pics! and you got to go to Italy, too! too bad you only passed through Switzerland; that's another country i'd really like to visit.
so where are the othe gazillion pictures you took on that trip? do you ever get them out? do you ever find yourself asking, "why the heck did i take that photo?"
I have the other photos all in three albums at home. There are a couple that I wonder about. For example, in one of the Bourges museums, there was a roman graveyard, with ancient crumbling statues, and I think I took 20 pictures in there, when really I only needed one. But some things I never got pictures of - like when I was in Aix - and I don't know what I was thinking. Unless I'd run out of film by that point. I don't regret any of the pictures I took in Venice. The weekend in Venice was probably the best weekend of my life, despite fighting with Kari the whole time I was there.
i have some pictures of French hillsides. i guess, living in the desert, i was impressed by their greenness. they certainly are green, but other than that, they were a waste of good film.
i also have some photos of some French villages. they're ...um... quaint, but i can't tell you where they are or what the village names were.

I never got to go to Spain when I lived in France. This looks gorgeous.
