“Wait.”
Max stopped and nervously turned around, hoping that the old man had not
sensed something false about the check.
Sanderson folded it and tucked it away.
He nodded at the machine. “It has
a lot of power. With great power comes
great responsibility.”
Max felt relief at not being caught in any wrongdoing and replied, “I
don’t want power or responsibility. I
just want to get to the good life quick and easy.”
