Blackmore's Night - Village Lanterne (2006) ***** ***** (out of 10*)
The trouble with most Renaissance-style music is that it gets quite samey after about 10 minutes. Not so here. Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night have mixed in some pop, some folk, some blues, and some old 'Deep Purple' and 'Rainbow' guitar. But the core of this CD is Medieval music. In this age when any amateur can become the next "Idol", it is refreshing to hear an accomplished singer and a guitar virtuoso strut their stuff. Oh, and the lyrics and arrangements are also awesome. Every track is a masterpiece.
