Harry Potter 6 - A 29-word Review

This is courtesy of my carpool partner, who had the privilege of chaperoning 5 teenagers at the midnight opening of HP6 last night; finally getting home at 3:45 AM, and then having to be ready to go to work at 6:30 AM. I drove. . "Heavy on the drama; light on the action. It doesn't follow the book at all. Not the best HP movie; not the worst. Dads are not the target audience." .
- WORD FOR THE DAY -
. Snogging. (v) : (French) kissing; sucking face; tonsil hockey; and about 50 other synonyms that you can read here. My favorite is the French slang : "Rouler une pelle." (to roll a shovel). As in, "There is some snogging in HP6." . I have to admit, I had never heard of "snog" before.

Considering Dumbledore's gay, he might be more likely to make a comment about someone other than Hermione.

Still haven't seen the movie. I know it has parts in it that I love from the book, so I'm looking forward to it. I hope they don't mutilate the book like they did #3.

yeah, the site i found this at (which is not the strip's homepage) titled this "I guess CES missed the news about Dumbledore.".

having read only HP-1 and seen none of the movies, i of course was clueless as to what "the news" was.

Oh, it was never in the books. JK Rowling outed him at a reading of Deathly Hallows in NYC about a month after the 7th book came out. It was huge splashy news for a bit there summer '07.

is it obvious from the books that Dumbledore is gay? if not, i have to wonder why Rowling would "reveal" that after the series had ended.

ummm. it has ended, hasn't it?

It's not necessarily obvious. I mean, the guy's 150, it's not like they talk about his sex life, you know? They rarely talk about his personal life at all until the last book, and then you kind of get some vibes that in his late teenage years, he was in love with the guy who later turned out to be a very dark wizard (not Voldemort, but someone named Grindewald). I figured I was just imagining it, though. She only outed him because she was asked at the reading if Dumbledore had ever gotten married when he was younger or had a lifelong love or something. She admitted he'd had this crush on Grindewald. If she'd have told anyone prior to Deathly Hallows, it would have been a major spoiler. She did, however, stop the people making one of the movies from having a section where Dumbledore remembered a woman from his youth by writing "Dumbledore's gay" on the script notes they gave her to approve, so they took that out. But it was of course trade secret, and it didn't get out somehow.

Yes, the series is over. And rightfully so. But that's the whole story of how Dumbledore's sexuality came to light, and why it didn't earlier.
