Industrial Death Metal Zits

    This is today's Zits comic strip.  I am familiar with Ulver, but the other two band names were new to me, and I wondered if they were made-up by the cartoonist.  So off to Google I went.

    It turns out they are real, and even have their own pages on Wikipedia.  They are indeed Industrial Death/Black Metal bands, but here's the curious part:

    All three bands are non-stereotypical for that genre, where the "norm" is pretending to be into satanism and ritual killing.  I need to camp out on YouTube and investigate them more deeply.

   It was a pleasant surprise yesterday morning, to discover that the comic strip "Zits" found a clever way to work Salvador Dali's limp clocks into the day's cartoon.

The Battle of Carthage

    This is wrong for oh so many reasons.

    First of all, it was a 2-year siege, not a flippin' battle.  The citizens of Carthage put up heroic resistance, but it was ultimately in vain, and Carthage was destroyed by the &!^*$$*& Romans, never to be rebuilt.

    Second of all, there's been - what? - a gazillion battles in recorded history.  Why the frick did Mom choose this particular one?  It wasn't the Romans' finest hour.  It didn't have any brilliant tactics.  No songs or ballads were written about it.

    Thirdly, among my dozen or so multiple personalities, there is a Carthagenian general, and he's been in a royal snit all day over this cartoon.  Let's show a little respect for the crazies of the world.

Promoting Capitalism

    Today's Zits comic.  My son was a Pizza Delivery guy a decade or so ago.  It was a dream job - he got to drive around for eight hours at a time, and got paid for doing it.  Plus tips.

    Once upon a time, he was a revolutionary.  I can prove it - that's what he listed as his profession when he got his passport.  Now, like the rest of us, he's a capitalist.  I think the pizza delivery job contributed to the transition, and I think this Zits strip captures the concept perfectly.
