The bad news is : I now have to play someone named Vidas, a Lithuanian whiz who wins about 95% of the chess tournaments he enters at the site.
.
I have no chance against him with Black. But with White, I plan to employ the subtle opening shown above. I figure I can at least get a draw.

Lol, I think that's the only way I could win at chess. Kind of like checkers, only you'd say "queen me" in this case. ;) Good luck, I'm sure you'll do great!
i drew a very good player a couple weeks ago, and i was playing Black to boot. so that's encouraging. still, this Vidas guy is phenomenal.
also, in the image - while the photographer got the board right (dark-colored square in the left-hand corner), he put the two kings on the wrong-colored squares. sloppy, sloppy.
I've just encountered this Vidas guy for the first time on itsyourturn.com. Took a look at his profile, saw all the tournament wins and got concerned, so I've been doing a little research. At first I thought he was a massive cheat, but the more I dig in, the more I think he's just good. Guess I'll have to study some of his games and see if I come up with any ideas. Did you have any luck against him?
Hi Gabe,
yep, this was an IYT tournament. honestly, I think Vidas is just a good player. I also played him for a couple times in the "King's Fortress" ladders, and again, he just outplayed me.
IIRC, with Black I played a Sicilian book line against Vidas, while with White, I went out of book early with some sort of English. Neither strategy worked. But I remember him as a good sport, very polite.
I can only think of one chess player that I'm convinced was using a program. Some guy named "Phobos" in the chess ladder. that's about it. not bad for 5 years or more at IYT and hundreds of chess games.
my handle there is "hamilcar barca". if you would like to play some casual games, look me up. i'm also in the 24-hour King's Fortress ladder, which is so sparse that the whole membership is available for challenge.
well, my memory sux. with White, I played a Vienna game that soon got out of book. and with Black, I played a book-line Pirc, which he quickly took out of book.
I lost in 28, and 21 moves respectively.
by the strangest of coincidences, the 2nd round of one of my IYT tournaments just started, and guess what? i'm playing Vidas again. hey, maybe you're in my quad.
