Eartha Kitt passed away on Christmas Day. She was best-known as a singer and actress (she played Catwoman on the "Batman" TV series after Julie Newmar departed). But some of us admired her for her anti-Vietnam-war views. In 1968, she made the following quote at a White House luncheon, which reportedly reduced LadyBird Johnson to tears.... "You send the best of this country off to be shot and maimed. They rebel in the street. They don't want to go to school because they're going to be snatched off from their mothers to be shot in Vietnam."
. Eartha's "reward" in this land of free speech was to be blacklisted for more than a decade in the entertainment field, and to be investigated by the CIA and FBI. Years later, Jimmy Carter made amends by inviting her to the White House. . This apparently completes God's "set" of black, activist, female entertainers first speculated about here. He took Miriam Makeba home on 09 November, and Odetta home on 02 December.
